Jinja-where the Adrenaline Thrill awaits you!

Adventure, thrill, fun, and adrenaline rush are some of the things that come in mind with the mention of Jinja Tourism City in Uganda. The town that is home to the source of the mighty River Nile is a fun filled place and acts as one of the most important tourism spots not only in Uganda or Africa but to the world as a whole.

Jinja lies in southeastern Uganda, approximately 54 miles (87 km), by road, east of Kampala. The town is located on the shores of Lake Victoria, near to the source of the River Nile. The nearby Owen Falls Dam regulates the flow of the White Nile and generates electricity.

Jinja was established in 1907, and is considered the capital of the Kingdom of Busoga.

                                           The Jinja experience

Compared to bustling Kampala, Jinja is a quiet town with a large main street, made up of a blend of British colonial, Asian and African homes. However, there is more to Jinja than meets the eye as you drive into the town.

There are many quality hotels, lodges, restaurants as well as budget camping and dorms to fit every traveler’s budget and needs. You can engage in several adrenaline adventure activities such as White water rafting, Kayaking, Jet boating, bungee jumping, surfing, boat cruises, quad biking , horseback riding tours among others.

Some of the reliable operators include Adrift Adventures, Nile River Explorers, Kayak the Nile and All Terrain Adventures for your Quad biking Experience.

Jinja is believed to be the source of the Nile though this has been debated by many explorers over the years. The visit to the source of the Nile is one of the things to do on the list while in Jinja. It is amazing to see how the small springs effortlessly emit water from underground to form the beautiful river which snakes it’s way to the Northern side – a fact that is a wonder in itself since it is the only river in the world that defies the acts of nature where the rest of the rivers flow south. It is also the longest river in the world. There is a small monument in this area dedicated to Mahatma Ghandi and some his ashes were released here.

The great and unique rapids of the Nile and the Livelihoods of the thousands of people are however under threat from the impending construction of Isimba Hydro dam project. Very high hopes lie with the Ugandan government to hear the plea and protect the source of the Nile, the communities and adventure companies that highly depend on it.
